Exam Week
Exam week is quickly approaching and I've been doing my best this holiday break to prepare. I am very shaky about my law final because I just don't understand his method of teaching. I will probably spend the rest of this week preparing for that exam. My Econ final will also be challenging simply because it is all essay, short answer, and graphical analysis. This is going to be tough! Not to mention I'm also going to have to study for my Communications exam. But it will all pay off because once all of this is over I'm going to Miami to see that special someone... I can't wait!

Hospital?
For the first time in my life the rising cost of health insurance has hit home for me. Lately I have been having these chest pains and I have no idea where they are coming from. Its been like this for about 2 months now. But instead of just going to go see a doctor I've just been worrying about how much the medical bills will cost. Thats a shame. I've got pretty good health insurance with my company, but for some reason I feel like I'm going to be ambushed by the bill. And this is definitely not the time to have extraordinary bills popping up. I think what I'll do is just wait it out for another week and see what my body does. If the pain persist then I guess I'll just have to fork up the cash.

Proposition 8
You have got to be kidding me. I mean, thats all I can really say about Proposition 8. WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL!?!? Why can't gay people get married? These people want to express their love for one another just like everyone else. Supporters of Proposition 8 claim that it will redefine marriage. SO WHAT?!!? If marriage in America wasn't redefined then black people couldn't marry white people. Quite a few states outlawed interacial marriage for a very long time, that is until marriage was REDEFINED. Why are people so threatened by gay marriage. Hell its not like they have to go to the wedding! How is their love and happiness affecting a straight person's love and happiness? Why do supporters of this proposition care so much? No one is saying that you have to support gays. No one is saying that you have to believe in their beliefs. All they want is a chance at happiness. The same chance at happiness that you want. And for anyone to deny that is just plain wrong.

Election Year
This is a very emotional election for a lot of people. I talked to my friend in Chicago and he said that EVERY police officer in the city is on duty just in case the crowd gets out of control. I am honestly really worried that some people will get of hand no matter how the election goes. I just hope everybody can be civil. I know this may sound narcissistic but I’m kind of anxious at the response from people at my office. I sort of feel like I will be looked at funny or asked a lot of questions. Maybe that’s just my imagination running wild again. At any rate, this is truly a beautiful historic moment in our lives. I feel very privileged to be a part of it. When I was standing in line to vote you could almost feel the energy running through the crowd. It was amazing. I’ve never experienced anything like it.

Wet car
This weekend was awful. It rained really hard on Friday and as usual the streets of downtown flooded. The waters were so high that I couldn't even make it home. I had to abandon my car a block away from my apartment and walk through knee deep water. Actually, the water was deeper than "knee deep." It came all the way up pass my thighs! I was so scared of what was in that water but I definitely wasn't about to stay in my car all night. The next morning I woke up around 8:00am to go get my car. And to my horror, there was about 2 inches of standing water on the floor! Water was everywhere. I was so angry. Everything that was on the floor was ruined, including my notebook for school! Also I had bought some new work shoes and they were soaking wet. The verdict is still out on those on whether or not they will be wearable. What an awful weekend.

Midterm Exam
My econ exam was ALOT more difficult than I thought it would be. I should have expected it though because my professor is pretty long winded. And usually professors who are long winded tend to have thorough exams. After all, a professor's exam is a reflection of their teaching methods. But it's ok because now I know what I have to do. I know I need to dedicate more time to the slides portion of the class and not so much the book. That was my downfall. I spent a lot of time on reading the book and familiarizing myself with the terminology. However what I failed to do was master the concepts. Another way I can study is apply more real world examples of the concepts that I learn in class. I think this will help me better prepare for the final. Now I’m ready to really step up my game!

Work is crazy
It seems like work has been absolutely insane lately! My desk is full of files with half completed projects, my imbox is full of unread emails, and I can't even remember the last time I took a lunch break! I guess its kind of fitting that my Communications group paper is on a four day work weeks. I am totally for it! Two days off just doesn't seem to suffice anymore with the amount of stress that the average worker is under. Viva la four day work week!!

Sarah Palin/Tina Fey
I can't get enough of Tina Fey's impressions of Sarah Palin. She is spot on!! But if I can take a moment to boast for a second and say that the minute Sarah Palin's candidacy was announced, the first person I thought of was Tina Fey. I said to myself, "PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE bring back Tina Fey!" My favorite skit so far is the opening skit with Tina Fey and Amy Poller playing Senator Hillary Clinton. CLASSIC!! I love how they made "Hillary" so passive aggressive. She was obviously upset that Palin was chosen to run as Vice President and moreso that she cannot currently run for president. One of my favorite moments was when Sarah talks about women doing anything they want if they just want it enough. And then Hillary just laughs and says, "hahaha... yes thats the problem, I didn't want it enough!" I cant wait until the next skit!

Fetti Cookies
My neighbors across the street threw a party this weekend for everyone that lived on Kennedy Street. It was appropriately named, the Kennedy Street Block Party, although it was more of a front porch party that a block party. It had a great turn out. However I kind of wish there were more people from the actual neighborhood that came. Most of the attendees were friends of there’s from work. They are really nice girls though. When my roommate and I first moved in they all brought us cookies. I didn’t even know people still did that, much less on the street that we are living on!
It was pretty comical the way it all went down. We were up stairs just listening to some music, when we here the doorbell. We look at each other like, “I’m not expecting company, are you?” So we go down and open the door, and standing on the porch are these four, seemingly identical giggly girls. And they all say in unison, “HELLOOOOO WELCOME!!! WE HAVE FETTI COOKIES!!!!” I’m not exaggerating. It was like they had rehearsed it. I was a little taken aback to be quite honest. I didn’t even know what fetti cookies were. And these girls were so full of energy! And it seemed like they were all feeding off of each others enthusiasm, almost like a pack of school children. It was so overwhelming.
So we invite them up, and as they come up the stairs it was like the end of the world. They were all over the place, moving as a pack, spending no more than 5 seconds in any one part of the house. “OH HOW COOL!” “OH HOW CUTE!” “OH MY GOSH” “SO MUCH ROOM!!” “HEY WHATS THIS!?!” When they finally left I felt the need to drank a glass of water. I felt exhausted. Like when they left they took all the energy of the house with them. But I really feel lucky to have such nice neighbors. The next block party will be at our house. We will probably need to have back up.

Sock Model
My friend is in the process of starting his own company called Oberon Socks. He will be specializing in the production of argyle socks with skulls on them, which are REALLY cool looking socks! Him and his girlfriend asked me and another friend of ours to "model" the socks for their website where you can purchase the socks. I have to say, I was really hesitant on doing it, but we had SOOO much fun!! The theme of the photo shoot was "the morning after." My friend and I were two bachelors (I laugh everytime I think about it) who went to a wedding the day before, and we apparently spent the whole night partying. The next day we are still in our suits and our Oberon Socks, slightly hung over, and reflecting on our wild and crazy night. hahaha! Hilarious right? So anyways, we took some shots on one of the docks at Water Front Park downtown Charleston, then we did some shots on the neighborhood streets. I can't wait until the website launches so I can show everyone how I have become a big time superstar sock model, hahaha!!

Cable?
I have been debating on whether or not to get cable in my apartment. My roommate rarely watches TV, and I only watch it if its readily available. In other words, neither of us is in any hurry to fork out the montly cash for television that we will only watch occasionally. However, at some point in time I know we will want to have people over for parties or dinner or random visits. And in this day and age, people don't like to sit and talk. But I do! I mean, I know at times awkward silence can fill a TV-less room, but there are so many other things to do! We can play games, tell jokes, tell ghost stories, sleep, swap baseball cards, knit, crochet... ok I'm joking on most of these things. But where have we come as a society that we can't tolerate an hour or two of talking without the crutch of a television? I think I'm going to give this a shot. My vote is no on cable!

Mattress Nightmare
I spent this entire weekend, including the holiday, moving into my new dank but charming apartment in downtown Charleston. I must admit, even though I am a self proclaimed "minimalist" and own next to nothing, this move was still no walk in the park. In addition to my two boxes of kitchen and bathroom items, I had to move my queen-sized mattress and box spring, which ultimately proved to be too large of a task for my dad's cute little Ford Ranger pick up truck. As I'm driving down the interstate, this lady pulls up next to me and starts maniacally waving her hands and pointing her finger in the direction behind us. I didn't even have to translate her hysterical facial expressions and lip movements to know what she was trying to tell me. The mattress had flown off the back of the truck. I should also mention that it was pouring down raining at the time.
All kinds of worst case scenarios were going through my head. I imagined the mattress had flown into the interstate landing onto the windshield of an SUV carry small to medium sized children, causing it to swerve off the road and burst into flames. Fortunately for the other motorist and unfortunately for me, the mattress had blown off the truck and settled neatly into a pool of water on the side of the interstate. There were no flames, no wreckage, and most importantly no burning children. And the mattress was wrapped in plastic so it was able to stay dry. I ended up getting the mattress safely back to my apartment and everything worked out great! I'll be throwing a housewarming party soon and everyone is invited. I'm registered at Bed Bath and Beyond. Just kidding.
